The Old Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa is
conveniently located on 751 Palm Street near the San Luis Creek and
downtown. In the mission's gardens,
troubles are forgotten walking on the pathways and smelling the beautiful
flowers. Built in 1772 by Chumash Indians, Fray Junipero Serra ran the
mission until his death in 1796. The mission offers a unique, nostalgic
experience. Visitors may view the mission at any time and services are
held: Known to San Luis Obispo's residents as the best
place to be on Thursday nights, Farmer's Market offers organically
grown fruit and vegetables, freshly cut flowers, food booths, music, and
information tables about local and political issues. Farmer's Market,
lasting from 5:30 to 8pm, starts on the corner of Higuera and Osos
Streets, stretches for four blocks, and
ends on the corner of Broad and Higuera. Directly across from the post office on Marsh Street, the Downtown
Centre presents a pleasant atmosphere to shop or read s book. Benches and
flowers line the center pathway and the many shops offer a different
variety of services. They include: Founded in 1903, Cal Poly was the
first Polytechnic College of its kind and is considered one of the largest
campuses in the nation. Cal Poly's reputation is founded on a "learn by
doing" philosophy and continues academic achievements by its faculty and
students. Although Cal Poly's engineering, agriculture, and science
programs are nationally known, the institution's other programs are well
recognized for their quality and experience. Students also have the
opportunity to live on campus. In fact,
Cal Poly has more residence halls than any other CSU campus, which are
conveniently located near the dining halls and the University Union.

supplies a spectacular view of the mountains and valleys surrounding the
campus. Poly Canyon Road, a favorite for biking and running enthusiasts,
includes trails to the Cal Poly Botanical Garden and the architecture
department's senior projects, such as the shell house, transformer and
sundial. Nationally known for thirty-five years, Madonna Inn offers 109 unique
rooms, each decorated with a special theme and majestic view of
Madonna Mountain. For your convenience, the inn offers two
restaurants, The Coffee Shop and The Gold Rush Dining Room, and dancing in
The Silver Bar. They also have a large selection of pastries in The Pastry
Shop to satisfy your sweet tooth and banquet rooms for all of your

here. Located a few minutes north of San Luis Obispo, off Highway 101, is the
Cuesta Grade. One of the highest passes in the county, it was originally a
stagecoach route. About six miles up the grade, turn left off the highway,
turn right at the first fork in the road to the top of Cuesta Ridge. This
road offers spectacular views of San Luis Obispo's mountains and valleys,
such as Morro Rock and the volcanic peak chain known as the Seven Sisters. Located off Madonna Road, this park offers fun for the whole family.
Plush meadows and winding trails offer a great place to walk, jog, or ride
a bike. Picnic areas, conveniently located near the playground, come
equipped with barbecues and benches. After eating, walk to the water's
edge and feed the ducks, or sit on the dock and watch the windsurfers and
boaters in the water. The central hub of San Luis County, downtown is always bustling with
shoppers. The best and quickest way to enjoy downtown is on foot. Stroll
by the different and unique boutique and shops and take a piece of San
Luis Obispo with you. While downtown, don't forget to add your gum to
bubble gum alley, or stop at any of the local eateries for your
favorite food. In the evening, enjoy San Luis's nightlife, listen to the
local bands while you sip on your favorite drink. Located at the intersection of Santa Rosa and Church Streets, visit the
nostalgic Ramona Depot built in 1889.
The one-time depot, built by the Southern Pacific Railroad Company, is all
that remains of the luxurious Ramona Hotel that burned to the ground in
1905.
